Question by yag1891: would it look bad if I sent more than one recommendation letter and other stuff to NYU and Columbia U.?
I already sent my application for Columbia U. and NYU; but I was wondering, would it look bad if I sent a bunch of supplementary work; such as writing and poetry I’ve done, creative resume, two recommendation letters instead of one [which is the limit], and a CD of short films I’ve done?
(I want to study literature and Film)
would it look bad? I mean, I know it’s not on the application, but I sent it…

It depends, does NYU and Columbia allow supplementary materials? If they do not, they’ll probably just either throw out whatever you sent or disregard it when looking at your application.

I would not send any supplementary materials. Some schools are nice about it; like when I visited Barnard College (a part of Columbia) they said that they would look at anything you sent them. I’m guessing this is not the case with Columbia and NYU, however, due to the number of applications that both schools get. I go to NYU and just from my experiences with the admissions department (and every other department, for that matter), I know that they have rigid rules and they stick to them. They won’t bend them for anyone, so if they say the maximum number of recommendation letters is one, you should only send one, or else you will just piss them off.
