Missy Billups

Resplendent in her going-to-church millinery, Angela “Missy” Billups will remind you of a hand-clapping, foot-stomping, organ-and-tambourine powered “go to meeting” service–what singing sounds like when saints get together to have “chr’ch.” “Missy B.”, as she is affectionately known, leaves the audience with a feeling of being comforted, lifted and just blessed. She brings a vibrant, non-stop medley of old-time songs–along with her backup vocalists and organist Ernest Billups who swings rockabilly riffs reminiscent of Bill Haley’s early work. Missy began her outreach at the age of sixteen, giving and ministering of her God-given talent to the youth, nursing homes, penal institutions and outdoor venues. She released her debut solo project, “Determined,” in April of 2000 and in 2004 released the CD “Churchin’ With Family and Friends,” which received phenomenal reviews. This New York vocalist’s latest project benefited from the estimable talents of Bishop Sam Williams, Vice-Chair of the Gospel Announcers Guild, who mixed, edited, mastered and provided the spoken word intro on the CD. Missy continues to minister through song both nationally and internationally, including in Switzerland, Italy and Rome. Her resume includes appearances in the entertainment arena: she has performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman”–with guest Steve Martin even joining in the performance–as well as for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Cablevision’s “Jingled”.
