Lied during pre-screening for interview should I come clean during actual interview?
Question by Jenna: Lied during pre-screening for interview should I come clean during actual interview?
Okay. So, I got creative with my resume and left off a job I only held for 7 months at Company 1. I did this because I held my last job at Company 2 (the one took three months later) for only ten months. The interview is this week, and even though I lied about the gap to the HR manager who called me to set up the appointment (I told her I was unemployed those months & still looking for a job), I really regret lying & I want to tell the truth when I show up for the interview. I really want this job, and I’ve wanted to work for this company for a long time. Should I cancel the interview and suffer the consequences? Or, should I show up to the interview and come clean? If I come clean aren’t they just going to be really pissed?
BTW: This new company is paying for my transportation to the interview, and my old boss @ Company 1 (the job I left after nine months) is willing to give me a strong recommendation (we’re still friends).

Come clean. But just say you were nervous about the interview because you really want to work there and you have no idea why you said what you said.
Come clean at the onset. Don’t wait for them to ask about the discrepancy.
